Fort Henderson Historic Sites and Trinity High School

These historic sites chronicle the history of race relations during the Civil War and into the 20th century. Fort Henderson was staffed mainly by black soldiers, who were subsequently captured by Capt. Bedford Forrest and returned to slavery. Trinity Congregational Church led the way for equal treatment of blacks; and Trinity High School was the first school in north Alabama to offer kindergarten instruction to black students.
