Instructions

Evaluate applications using the criteria below & MSNHA’s Grant Guidelines (attached and/or at msnha.una.edu). All required information must be present. Criteria are equally weighted & evaluated on an ascending scale from 1-5:

EXCELLENT (5) -- The proposal far exceeds the requirement. The response provided indicates that the proposed effort will provide a high-quality innovative effort that supports MSNHA’s mission “to promote cultural tourism by education, preservation, and conservation of the heritage and culture of the six counties within the designated area. MSNHA seeks to inform, educate, develop, and interpret visitor-ready sites, create living history experiences, and chronicle the evolution of the area’s landscape as well as extend these opportunities to the largest audience possible.” MSNHA is especially looking for projects involving collaborative efforts between sites, organizations, events, etc. and across county lines.
GOOD (4) -- The proposal exceeds requirements. Response provided indicates that the proposal will exceed proposed efforts. Proposal demonstrates some innovative features not shown in typical projects.
MEETS CRITERIA (3) -- The proposal meets but does not exceed the requirement. The response provided indicates that the proposal will meet the required objectives.
FAIR (2) -- The proposal’s answer is minimal, the answer is very general and does not fully address the requirement, or the proposal meets only some of the requirement.
POOR (1) -- The proposal misinterpreted or misunderstood the requirement, the proposal does not answer the requirement in a clear manner, or the proposal does not address or meet the requirement.

Maximum possible score is 25 points, of which five points are allocated to the evaluation of the budget. You may provide a justification for your scores with explanation of a given score in the associated comment box. Reviewer’s names will be kept confidential. Scores and justifications are NOT confidential – they will be made available to the grant applicant upon request, so please comment with helpful and respectful remarks.

5. Contribution to MSNHA
The proposal fits into one of the required grant categories, relates to one of MSNHA's three themes (music, American Indians, and the Tennessee River), and supports MSNHA's mission.
7. Innovativeness of Approach
The proposed project makes good use of available resources. It provides a unique opportunity for the targeted community or demographic. Other groups and sites in the MSNHA will be able to learn something from this project's implementation.
9. Potential to Reach Goals, Objectives & Expected Outcomes
The proposal is a doable project that articulates substantive expected outcomes & applications.
11. Clarity of Proposal
The proposal is clearly articulated, with good flow & cohesive ideas and pays attention to the grant requirements.
13. Budget
Does the budget adequately support the proposed effort?
