Young Learners’ Series: Pottery

February 24 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Florence Indian Mound Museum is hosting a series of children’s programs exploring the early history of the Shoals through short lessons & hands-on learnings. Each month features a practice relating to Native American culture. Participants will explore the history & cultural meaning behind each practice while engaging in an activity related to that topic.
Join us this month for a program & activity about Southeastern Native American pottery making.
Native American tribes of the Southeast created pottery for more than 4,000 years. Pottery historically had various purposes & was used both for function & ceremony. Children can create their own pottery pieces with air-dry clay to share in a student-made exhibit or take home. Together we will learn how and why pottery was made in the past and how it is still created and shared today.
