Backpacking Loan Closet

If you are a member of an organization or organized group that would like to experience camping or backpacking, but lack access to gear, MSNHA can help. We provide essential equipment for these activities to rent free of charge.

We know these types of outdoor adventures can be scary or challenging for those unfamiliar with them, so we also will facilitate training prior to rental for any members of your group who would like to learn the basics of using our backpacking equipment. Our staff is knowledgeable about the outdoors and northwest Alabama. We can provide recommendations or answer any questions you may have. We want your group to enjoy your time outdoors as much as possible.

For more information, please read our Rental Policies and Terms and our Rental Agreement linked below. All renters must read and agree to these terms before receiving equipment. Additionally, all trip participants using gear must read and sign a Waiver and Hold Harmless Form.

Available equipment includes:
6 backpack sets – each with a backpack, tarp, 1-person tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, mess kit, head lamp, and compass.
First aid kids (1 per group)
Water filtration systems (1 per group)
Camping stoves (2 per group)
Fire starters (2 per group)
LED lanterns (2 per group)
Rubber mallets (1 per group)
