Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, birds and other beneficial insects play a critical role in home landscapes, and homeowners can support them with a few simple practices. Planting a variety of flowering plants that bloom from early spring through fall provides a consistent food source of nectar and pollen throughout the growing season. Choosing native plants is especially helpful, as they are well adapted to local conditions and are often preferred by native pollinators. Limiting or carefully timing pesticide use, providing shallow water sources and leaving some undisturbed areas for nesting can further support pollinator health. With thoughtful plant selection and mindful garden care, home landscapes can become welcoming habitats that benefit pollinators and the plants that depend on them.
