Natchez Trace Parkway

Photo by Cathy Wood, MSNHA media coordinator

The historic Natchez Trace cuts through the Shoals area in Alabama on its 444-mile journey from South Mississippi to Nashville. Created by bison, then travelled by Native Americans and traders, the Trace served as a major thoroughfare in the early 1800s until steamboats appeared in the 1820s. Visitors traveling all or part of the Trace enjoy beautiful natural scenery as they camp or travel the many bike trails and footpaths that are found along its length.
