Stories

“To preserve, protect and promote the cultural heritage resources of the Muscle Shoals region”

The Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area is full of stories. Some are hidden. Some are well-known. Some are in the quiet places. Some are in the bustling downtowns. There are stories in stately antebellum houses and still-standing sharecropper cabins, in hot & flat cotton fields, and the humming of hydroelectric power in TVA dams. From the Native Americans who cracked open mussels along the Tennessee River shoreline to Grammy winners in town to record another hit, our stories are everywhere and in everyone. Let the MSNHA be your guide to discovering, exploring, and understanding northwest Alabama’s stories.  Read more about our themes of the Tennessee RiverNative American heritage, and music. Then browse through our list of projects to see how we help our communities share their stories. Finally, check out our blog posts for deep dives into local history & memories.
