The Forks of Cypress, built in 1819, was the first home in America with a peristyle colonnade (columns on all four sides) and is regarded as one of the great houses in Alabama. Only the columns of the historic house remain after a devastating fire in 1966. Among the slaves who once lived at the plantation were the ancestors of Alex Haley who penned the novel “Roots.”
In Florence from Cox Creek Parkway, turn north onto Jackson Road then right at the dead end. Please remember that Forks of Cypress is private property.
