Blues composer W.C. Handy, the Father of the Blues, was born in Florence and never forgot his small-town river roots. The museum — the original cabin Handy was born in — houses many of Handy’s personal items, including original sheet music, his trumpet, and the piano he used to compose “St. Louis Blues.” The museum is owned & operated by the non-profit W. C. Handy Foundation, in Houston, which was founded by Handy’s grandson Carlos R. Handy.
