The Old State Bank, built in 1833, is the oldest bank in the state. The pre-Greek Revival structure served as a hospital during the Civil War and was one of only four buildings in Decatur that survived the war. An unusual feature of the bank is its second floor apartment for the head cashier. The bank contains historical displays depicting life in the 1830s.
Note: Old State Bank is closed for restoration. Its Passport to Your National Parks© cancellation stamp is temporarily at the Historic Decatur Union Depot, 701 Railroad St. NW, Decatur. Phone is 256-341-4818.
